Ghana bid a heartfelt farewell to Major Alberta Boatemaa Oquaye, the wife of former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, as she was laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Tseadoo, Accra. The state burial followed solemn funeral services at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre, where Major Oquaye’s casket, adorned with national colors and beautiful flowers, became a focal point for paying final respects.

Her exceptional nursing skills were honed through training in the United Kingdom, and she served in various locations across Ghana, including Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale, and Accra. Major Oquaye’s expertise and dedication were especially evident during her time at the 37 Military Hospital, where she worked in the theater and the midwifery department. She culminated her career as the Incharge of the Special Officers Ward, a prestigious role that catered to the accommodation needs of heads of state.
Major Oquaye’s remarkable service to the nation and the military was recognized with The Outstanding Military Nightingale Award in 2013. This honor celebrated her unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to Ghana and its armed forces.
