Requirements:

Languages: Candidate must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Have completed tertiary education within horticulture or food science, or equivalent

Experience:

  • Be experienced in post-harvest handling practices and systems for fresh produce, most notably in mangoes or other tropical fruits.
  • Have significant operational experience in product quality management in a fast-paced commercial environment.

About the Role

This specialist post-harvest role is critical in ensuring product quality is maintained from harvest to consumer purchase. Key objectives include:

  • Product Handling: Developing, implementing and monitoring standards, systems and processes for end-to-end domestic and export supply chains.
  • Information Management: Ensure that quality standards and records are clearly documented and effectively communicated from farm to customers.
  • Quality Management: Monitor quality reports daily and investigating issues during harvest.
  • Business Improvement: Proactively contribute to teams, committees, planning and other strategic activities.
  • Training: Provide information and support throughout the entire chain, from harvest and packing through to supply chain partners and customers, as appropriate.
  • Customer Service: Liaise with internal stakeholders to respond promptly to customer feedback.
  • Compliance: Ensure legal, accreditation and market access requirements are inherent within all quality systems.
  • Presence: Visit farms and other locations to liaise with teams, customers and others when necessary.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to be experienced in designing and managing horticultural quality systems. You will also:

  • Have completed tertiary education within horticulture or food science, or equivalent.
  • Be experienced in post-harvest handling practices and systems for fresh produce, most notably in mangoes or other tropical fruits.
  • Have significant operational experience in product quality management in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Have a solid understanding of legal, market access and accreditation requirements.
  • Enjoy working in a small team, taking initiative and responsibility while engaging with others along the way.
  • Be skilled at thinking operationally and strategically at the same time.
  • Be a natural trainer and mentor, so that others come to rely on you for information and expert advice.
  • Work collaboratively with others in and around the production and supply chain team to keep things going smoothly.
