Residents of Abunyanya, a farming hamlet in the Nkwanta North of the Oti Region, have requested that John Oti Kwabena Bless, a member of parliament, step in right away to see that a nearby maternity block is finished.
Pregnant women who must go to Kpassa for maternal healthcare were expected to benefit from the development of the maternity block and its accompanying amenities at Abunyanya.
The project, which was supposed to offer ample space for patients, has since been abandoned and is now decaying.
During Adom News’ visit, it was also noted that the institution lacked employees, beds, and security officers.
Abubakar Alhassan, a prospective assemblyman from the neighborhood, gave some supplies to the facility as a quick fix.
He said that ensuring the community’s residents have access to high-quality healthcare is a part of his effort.
Mr. Alhassan joined requests that the MP press for the project’s conclusion.
Ubor Bijilah Nakoja, the community’s head, also raised concern about the MP’s unwillingness to advocate for the completion of such a crucial project.
In order to relieve congestion at the facility, he urged the government and other organizations to assist in completing the project.
While some said that because the neighborhood lacked a maternity hospital to handle prenatal and postnatal situations, pregnant women’s lives were in risk.
