Former NPP MP Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia is dead

Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia, a former Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is said to have died.

The circumstances surrounding her death are presently unknown, however close family sources have verified that she died in the late hours of Tuesday, January 9, 2024, following a brief illness, according to Newsalertonline.com.

Chigabatia, known as a “mother for all,” was the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister during the reign of former President John Agyekum Kufuor. She represented the Builsa North district in Parliament from 2005 to 2009, losing her reelection campaign in the 2008 General Elections to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Timothy Ataboadey.

Chigabatia was committed to women’s empowerment during her term in Parliament, addressing the topic on Women’s Day every year.

She actively gave speeches on the legislative floor to bring attention to the difficulties that northern women confront.

Agnes Chigabatia was born on October 20, 1956, in Chuchuliga, Upper East Region, Ghana, and attended Adda Middle School in Navrongo and Ayieta Middle School in Sandema.

She completed her secondary school at St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School in Jirapa before continuing her studies at Accra Polytechnic, where she earned an Advance Level in Catering Certificate.
