Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has instructed Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng not to publish remarks that may ruin the image of former Minister of Sanitation Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

According to him, the Special Prosecutor should focus on examining the situation and prosecuting the former minister if the office can prove misconduct.

On JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, September 2, Mr Ahiagbah stated that while Ghanaians support the OSP’s investigation, he is opposed to media coverage of the Special Prosecutor’s work.

“As a citizen, we are not interested in all these discoveries or scoops that come out. He should go ahead and do the investigation.

“What we are interested in or should be interested in as citizens is to say that he has resolved or preempted a corruption case by recovering money for the state,” he stressed.

Mr. Ahiagbah pointed out that the Special Prosecutor’s duties include helping to raise money for the nation by retrieving money that properly belongs to the government.

He advised Kissi Agyebeng to prioritize the investigation process above media attention, which would be less important.

The former Sanitation Minister’s assets were recently ordered by the High Court to be released, but the NPP Communications Director emphasized that this did not impede the current inquiry.

“So with me right now, even on the court ruling to have him take his hands off the account and money, it does not in any way impede the Special Prosecutor from proceeding with the investigation because that is what you can control,” Mr Ahiagbah argued.

He asked the Special Prosecutor to complete the inquiry as quickly as possible, get the facts straight if at all feasible, and be recognized for his efforts in stopping the misuse of public funds.
