According to Kofi Tonto, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) publicity team, Kennedy Agyapong cannot absolve himself of responsibility if he believes that the current administration is incompetent.

Kofi Tonto asserts that the flagbearer candidate is unable to make such assertions since he previously claimed to have had a significant influence on the selection of most of the ministers in the administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“You said you handpicked the ministers and today if there is a problem you are saying you are not a part of the government,” he said during an interview on Hello FM.

He emphasized that Kennedy Agyapong’s judgment call was directly indicted by the assertion that the administration is a failure, and he further said that his position as head of the Ghana Gas board renders him even more culpable.

“None of the two leading candidates in this contest can claim that they are not part of the current government. Dr. Bawumia is part just as Kennedy Agyapong is also a part of the government.

“There are about 10 strategic institutions in Ghana and the Ghana Gas Company is part, this is a company responsible for the provision of gas to power our thermal plants for the generation of electricity and guess who is in charge there. It’s Kennedy Agyapong,” he stated.

On November4,2023, the NPP is scheduled to elect a flagbearer.

Participating in the campaign, Kennedy Agyapong has maintained that, given the state of the administration and the roles performed by his competitors, he is still the only serious candidate to assist the party in holding onto power.

Kennedy Agyapong is running against Francis Addai-Nimoh, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other candidates.
