University of Cape Coast Senior Staff Association Embarks on Indefinite Strike

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is currently experiencing a standstill in its operations due to an indefinite strike action by the Senior Staff Association. All offices on campus remain closed as the group demands better treatment from the University’s Management.

The Senior Staff Association declared the indefinite strike action last Friday citing ill treatment by the University’s Management towards its members. Among the demands put forth by the group are the promotion of senior staff, appointment to senior membership, career progression, and payment of negotiated allowances, among others.

Sandy Kumi Sinatra, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, confirmed that the National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned them and the University Management to a meeting today in an attempt to resolve the impasse.

However, the national leadership of the association has warned that it will not hesitate to declare a strike in solidarity with its colleagues at the University of Cape Coast if their grievances are not addressed.

This strike action comes at a time when the University of Cape Coast is experiencing significant growth and development, with the institution recording an increase in enrolment figures in recent years. The closure of all offices on campus due to the indefinite strike action by the Senior Staff Association is likely to have a significant impact on the smooth running of the University’s operations.
