Six local gov’t service staff sacked over involvement in partisan politics

Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, the head of the local government service, has stated the company’s position on the involvement of its employees in party politics.

He highlighted that the company does not condone the engagement of its workers in partisan political activities while they are on duty in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday.

He said that six workers who engaged in such actions in public were quickly fired as a result.

Dr. Arthur is adamant that the efficient operation of the local government service requires a workplace that is politically apolitical.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to partisan politics within our workplaces. Our staff members are expected to serve the public impartially, without bias towards any political party. Those who openly engaged in partisan politics have been relieved of their duties to maintain the integrity and non-partisanship of our organization,” he stated.

The head of local government service also emphasized the steps made to combat underperformance in local assembly in addition to cracking down on partisan politics.

He clarified that the proper consequences were being applied to the assemblies that had not achieved their goals and provided the public with the desired quality of service.

“We hold our local assemblies accountable for their performance. Those who consistently under-perform face appropriate sanctions, as we believe in delivering quality service to the citizens. It is our responsibility to ensure that the local government system runs smoothly and efficiently,” he said.

The local government service has seen a considerable rise in productivity across several assemblies under Dr. Arthur’s direction.

This progress is attributable to the effective execution of several initiatives designed to increase productivity and streamline business processes inside the firm.

“To meet the growing demands of our communities, we have made significant efforts to expand our workforce. The recruitment of 13,756 staff members since 2017 has played a crucial role in bolstering the local government service. We are dedicated to ensuring that we have the necessary manpower to effectively fulfil our responsibilities,” he added.

Dr. Arthur is nevertheless upbeat about the local government service’s future, pointing to the accomplishments accomplished thus far as proof of the right course it has taken under his management.
