Great Olympics played out a 1-1 draw against Tamale City in a closely contested matchday 27 fixture in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon at the Sogakope Park. The Dade Boys were aiming for their first win at their adopted home grounds but had to settle for a point as their fight against relegation intensifies. Defender Christopher Nakai Nettey gave the home team the lead in the 38th minute with a powerful strike that beat the Tamale City goalkeeper.

The away side had several chances to equalize but failed to convert them, and it looked like Olympics were going to clinch all three points until the dying minutes of the game. Striker Sampson Eduku scored his 10th goal of the campaign in stoppage time to ensure City went back to Tamale with at least one point.

Tamale City’s late goal came as a big relief for them as they fight to avoid relegation, while the Dade Boys’ chances of survival continue to hang in the balance. Olympics remain in the relegation zone after the draw, while City are just one place above the drop on goals difference after nicking the point.

Bismark Kobi-Mensah’s side has now managed just two victories in ten league matches since taking over from Yaw Preko, who was sacked for a poor run of results. The coach will be hoping to turn things around in their next match as they welcome title holders Asante Kotoko SC at home.

All in all, it was a tightly contested match with both sides putting up a good fight. The draw may not have been the result both teams wanted, but it was a fair outcome given the quality of football displayed. Tamale City will be looking to build on this result when they host Hearts of Oak in their next fixture at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.
