Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, the chairman of the Appiatse Support Fund, revealed that the fund has so far received GHC62 million in donations from various institutions, organizations, and people.

All of these gifts are in support of the township of Appiatse, which was destroyed by fire early last year, as well as its reconstruction and rehabilitation.

This information was made public by the Chairperson when she accepted a GHC 200,000 payment from Goil on Monday, March 20, 2023, as their contribution to the rebuilding of Appiatse.

In addition to donations from various organizations, Maxam Company, the mining company responsible for the tragedy, has consistently paid its fine, according to Madam Joyce Aryee, and she also underlined that it had contributed to the GHC62 million total raised.

She thanked Goil profusely on behalf of her group and the residents of Appiatse, noting that this will go a long way toward assisting them in making on-time payments to contractors. While more funds are required to complete the entire project, Rev. Aryee hoped that Goil’s act of kindness will usher in a second wave of donations from organizations that have yet to contribute to the fund.

Rev. Joyce Aryee described the difficulties contractors confront on the job site, highlighting in particular how the region’s constant rain hampers their ability to make progress. Yet Madam Joyce Aryee had faith that most of the structures will be finished and ready for occupants by September 2023.

In his remarks, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, the managing director of Goil, stated that after learning of the tragic occurrence that took place in Appiatse, Goil, as a socially conscious business body, decided to join the fray and assist to the reconstruction of the model green village.

Even though their donation to the Fund was late, he added, “better late than never,” he said.

Mr. Osei-Prempeh further mentioned that Goil sent some money to Appiatse at the outset of the affair before the fund was established.

He commended Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee and her colleagues for their work on behalf of the Appiatse and all of humanity.
