Thomas Partey, a midfielder for Arsenal, has been dubbed a “great player” by Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton and is credited with being a major factor in their success this year.

A “continuation player,” as Hughton put it, the 29-year-old was also labeled.

The 2023 AFCON qualifier between the Black Stars and Angola, which will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday, was the occasion of his official introduction as the team’s head coach on Monday at the SG Mall in Kumasi.

With 10 games remaining in the season, the London club maintains an eight-point advantage in the English Premier League rankings thanks in large part to Partey’s stellar play for the Gunners.

Yet, many have criticized the former Atletico Madrid midfielder’s performances for the Black Stars as being below par and far from the form he has displayed for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

I think he’s a fantastic player who is currently playing for the Arsenal club, and he is crucial to their current success. Thomas’s contribution to the team has always been of utmost importance to the managers who select him, which is why, both at the club and international levels, he has consistently been a member of the squad.

Because of the special role they play, sometimes [for] that type of player, his importance to the squad is not seen outside, according to us as coaches,” he remarked.

Hughton has called up Partey, who is anticipated to start, for the matches against Angola.
