Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former Finance Minister and Presidential aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to revive the Ghanaian economy if elected in the 2024 presidential election. He assured Ghanaians that despite the Akufo-Addo-led government’s destruction of the economy, the NDC under his leadership would turn things around.

Dr. Duffuor has a proven track record of implementing policies that led to single-digit inflation, sustainable economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. During the late President Atta Mills’ era, the NDC inherited a terrible economy, but with competent leadership, the economy was transformed. Therefore, he urged Ghanaians to be patient as the NDC would turn the economy around, regardless of its current state.

“We will fix the economy and create more jobs for the youth to get employment opportunities. Just be patient, don’t be thinking so much about the economic mess created to get blood pressure,” he said.

Dr. Duffuor recognized that the NDC needed to be financially sound and must buy shares in multimillion-dollar companies, as major political parties in South Africa, Japan, and some other countries have been doing. To this end, he assured NDC executives of monthly stipends and resources for the party branches, and he pledged to revive the Hero Fund of the party.

The Presidential aspirant further stressed the importance of the NDC being fully prepared and resourceful to defeat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is bent on retaining power. He met with the party’s regional executives and expressed disappointment at the poor state of the regional office. Thus, he promised to build a befitting office for the regional Secretariat of the NDC and the Constituencies should he become the party’s leader after the presidential primaries.

Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team kick-started a 4-day tour in the Eastern region, starting with a meeting with delegates of the NDC party in New Juaben North constituency. He urged Ghanaians to support the “Ahotor Project,” which is a step in the right direction to fund the NDC’s political activities.

For the most part, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s message to Ghanaians is one of hope and assurance that the NDC can revive the Ghanaian economy and create more job opportunities for the youth. Ghanaians will be looking to see if his promises and policies will translate into practical solutions to the challenges facing the country.
