Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, an aspiring flag bearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denied receiving sponsorship from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to destroy his own party. The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana made the statement during his four-day campaign tour in the Ashanti region. Duffuor emphasized his commitment to the NDC, saying he had contributed significantly to the party’s growth and development.

Duffuor’s opponents had accused him of receiving sponsorship from the NPP, sparking concerns among some party members. However, he dismissed the allegations, urging party supporters to disregard the destructive campaign. He stressed that he had funded the NDC and remained loyal to the party, regardless of the challenges he had faced under the NPP government.

According to Duffuor, the NPP had hurt him more than any other member of the party. He revealed that the government had destroyed his banks and attempted to collapse his other businesses. Nevertheless, he remained committed to returning the NDC to power to make Ghana a better place.

Duffuor appealed to the party’s delegates to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election, scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023. He urged them to thumbprint his number on the ballot paper, expressing his confidence in his ability to lead the NDC to victory.

For the most part, Duffuor’s campaign focused on his commitment to the NDC and his plans to lead the party to victory in the 2024 elections. He highlighted his past contributions to the party, including his financial support and his role as Minister of Finance under former President John Evans Atta Mills. Duffuor also emphasized the need for unity within the party, calling on all members to work together to achieve the NDC’s goals.
