Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, a former member of parliament representing Old Tafo, has passed away.
On Monday, March 20, this was announced on the Ghanaian Parliament’s official Facebook page.
“Hon. Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, a former Old Tafo MP, has passed away. He may now rest in peace, said the House of Commons.
Dr. Akoto Osei served as Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning in President John Agyekum Kufuor’s government.
He served in the Ashanti region as a member of Parliament representing the electoral district of Old Tafo.
In May 2003, he was appointed deputy minister of Finance and Economic Planning and served as a prominent economic adviser to the cabinet.
Upon the death of then-Minister Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, he was promoted to substantive Minister for Finance and Economic Planning.
He held that position until January 6, 2009, when the government was handed over to the National Democratic Congress, which had won the General Elections in 2008.
After being nominated by President Nana Akufo-Addo and going through the vetting procedure in Ghana’s parliament, Osei was sworn in as Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation in February 2017.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry was established to analyze, monitor, and prepare review summits and forums in accordance with the government’s policy on monitoring the work of its own ministries.
