The amount of money discovered in the home of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former minister for sanitation, water, and resources, has drawn the attention of Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Nana Agyeman Badu II, the Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Area.

Speaking on GhanaWeb TV’s LowDown with Daniel Oduro as the host, the Dormaahene emphasized that the occurrence brings up the topic of corruption and the necessity of addressing the canker.

“I don’t know, I’ve seen Honourable Cecilia Dapaah from Kufuor’s time up to this point, I don’t know the source of her money but it’s curious. That huge money, over there?

“But I don’t want to judge anybody by what is going on. But you see, our people who have been dealing with us whether as judges, whether as policemen, whether as politicians, whether as chiefs, what they are saying is that we are engaging in corruption. Because of that, I agree that there is a problem and there is the need for us to fix it,” he added.

On July 24, 2023, the Office of the Special Prosecutor seized two million eight hundred and sixty-two thousand and seven Ghana cedis and five hundred and ninety thousand United States dollars ($590,000.00) from Madam Cecilia Dapaah’s residence in response to news reports that some individuals had been charged with stealing $1,000,000.00 from her home.

Since then, the OSP’s initial attempt to have the former minister’s assets and funds blocked by a court on the grounds that they may be polluted has failed.

After requesting an order to validate the seizure of Madam Dapaah’s funds and assets on suspicion of corruption and offenses linked thereto, the Special Prosecutor is presently making a second effort.
