The State Transport Company (STC) bus was involved in a traffic accident that injured a number of students early on Monday, April 17, according to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), which said investigations have begun.

After reaching a part of the road near Gomoa Buduatta Junction on its way from Accra to Cape Coast, the STC bus with the licence plate GB 1079 – 20 is reported to have attempted to apply the brakes but failed, grazing the driver side of a tipper truck travelling in the other direction.

The GN 7932 -22-registered tipper truck was travelling from Cape Coast to Accra.
The majority of the bus’s occupants were senior high school students returning to class after the Easter break when it went off the road and overturned, injuring them to varying degrees.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Cape Coast received a copy of the NRSA’s statement, which stated that preliminary inquiries by the Authority revealed there were no fatalities reported.

The injured were brought to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital in safety and treated there.
“Further investigations are being conducted to seek explanations and better clarifications into the cause(s) of the crash,” the statement read.

The Authority expressed remorse over the occurrence and urged all surviving family members of the fatalities to maintain their composure as it investigated the cause of the collision and dealt with the problems.

It asked all transport providers to check their vehicles thoroughly before every trip, refrain from speeding, and adhere to traffic laws, especially when it came to driving at 50 kph on highways.

According to GNA sources at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, all patients who were admitted there for treatment have already been released.
