The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mr. Sammy Awuku, has expressed his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election.
In an interview with Asaase Radio, Mr. Awuku cited Dr. Bawumia’s intelligence, politics of inclusion, and his role in championing many government initiatives as reasons for his endorsement. Although there are other strong candidates, Awuku believes that Bawumia would be a strategic choice for the NPP and could lead the party to victory.
He emphasized that the 2024 election will be based on a candidate’s ability to provide and deliver on promises rather than tribe or religion. Mr. Awuku advised Dr. Bawumia to work hard and give the delegates and party members a reason to believe that he can lead the party to break the 8-year cycle of change in government.
Despite Dr. Bawumia not declaring his intentions to run for office, Mr. Awuku believes that he would be a great candidate for the NPP. He noted that supporters of other candidates are now canvassing for votes for Bawumia.
In conclusion, Mr. Awuku’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia could significantly influence the outcome of the NPP’s flagbearer race. It remains to be seen if other party members will follow his lead and rally behind the Vice President’s candidacy.
