The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has affirmed that its presidential and parliamentary primaries will hold as scheduled on May 13, 2023, despite an interlocutory injunction filed by one of the flagbearer hopefuls, Dr. Kwabena Duffour. The NDC National Chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, has reassured party members that the electoral process followed proper procedures and adhered to the constitution.

Speaking in an interview with Okay FM, Aseidu Nketiah stated that the party had not faulted in any way or gone against any law, and every candidate was provided with a delegate list after the vetting process. He dismissed any claims suggesting that individuals were denied access to the delegate list.

Aseidu Nketiah further dismissed any suggestions of postponing the elections due to grievances related to the photo album of the delegates, stating that the photo album was not even part of the guidelines. He urged all candidates to prepare for the elections, adding that there was no basis for postponement.

In response to the interlocutory injunction filed by Dr. Duffour, the NDC has named the General Secretary of the party, the Director of the Elections Directorate, and fellow flagbearer hopefuls John Dramani Mahama and Kojo Bonsu as respondents in the lawsuit. The defendants have been commanded to enter their appearance within eight days of being served with the legal documents, failure to comply with the order may result in a judgment being passed in their absence without further notice.

For the most part, the NDC has remained resolute in holding the primaries as scheduled, despite the allegations of irregularities and concerns regarding the integrity of the upcoming primaries. The party has assured Ghanaians and NDC members that the electoral process has been transparent and in line with the constitution.

In a nutshell, the NDC has demonstrated its commitment to democratic ideals by upholding due process and maintaining the integrity of its electoral process. The party’s resolve to hold the primaries as scheduled despite the legal challenge is a testament to its dedication to the principles of transparency and accountability.
