MP educates DCE on proper utilization of Common Fund for education support.
Builsa South Member of Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, has written to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Builsa South District, Fumbisi, educating him on the correct utilization of the District Assemblies Common Fund for education support.
The letter was in response to the DCE’s earlier communication on the establishment of a Committee to vet applications for students’ support.
Dr. Apaak disagreed with the DCE’s decision, stating that there are no laws supporting the move by the General Assembly of the District to vet applications for student support.
He explained that the guidelines for the utilization of the District Assemblies Common Fund clearly state the roles of the Member of Parliament and the District Assembly in managing their respective components of the Fund.
The MP questioned the basis for the decision by the General Assembly and asked which law or act gives them the authority to decide the criteria for selecting students to benefit from his education support.
He confirmed that, after conducting research and consulting with colleagues and experts, the General Assembly has no such powers.
