Lawyer Raphael Alijina confident of winning NDC primaries in Chiana-Paga Constituency
Lawyer Raphael Aopaari Alijina has emerged as a front-runner for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary ticket for the Chiana-Paga constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The constituency has been a stronghold for the NDC, with the party producing more Members of Parliament than any other party since 1992. Despite this, NDC delegates in the constituency have not been loyal to any particular candidate, even incumbent NDC MPs. This year, the current MP for Chiana-Paga, Thomas Dalu, will be contesting in the primaries, alongside three other aspirants, including Lawyer Alijina.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guide, Lawyer Alijina expressed his belief that he is the right candidate to ensure that the NDC retains the Chiana-Paga parliamentary seat. He believes that he has worked hard for the party, himself, and the constituency in the area of legal and other sectors. He has also learned a lot in politics and parliamentary work from many party elders. He added that his team members and party supporters say he is a better option, and after assessing his capabilities, he confirms that he will be the right parliamentary candidate to restore the “soul” of the constituency.
According to Lawyer Alijina, his vision is to ensure quality representation of the NDC come the December 2024 parliamentary elections. His plans for the constituency include development in the areas of tourism and entertainment, health, education, agriculture, and the transport sector. He believes that if the Chiana-Paga constituency is well marketed, it will attract many investors to the area.
Winning an election in Chiana-Paga, especially parliamentary, is not easy, and no candidate is able to claim a victory before the election day. Everyone campaigns vigorously until the last ballot is counted. Lawyer Alijina believes that the NDC has a brighter chance of winning the Chiana-Paga seat again if they choose a parliamentary candidate that can pull support and votes from all sections of the constituency and even from the New Patriotic Party.
