Hubtel, a leading e-commerce platform in Ghana, is determined to address the country’s unemployment challenges by continuously developing new products and services. According to CEO Alex Bram, although the company has experienced significant growth in its workforce, they are not complacent and are committed to creating more job opportunities. Since its rebranding in 2017, Hubtel has expanded its team from 60 employees to over 270 across eight cities nationwide. Bram emphasized that every department has seen remarkable growth, exceeding 100% over the past six years.

The Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, recently encouraged Ghana to invest further in the flourishing fintech industry, which holds a potential worth of $4 trillion in global online trade. In response to this opportunity, Hubtel obtained a full license as an Enhanced Payment Services Provider in 2022, making it the largest fintech company in Ghana in terms of transaction turnover and revenue by the end of the year. Bram attributed this success to the dedication and hard work of the Hubtel team.

Hubtel faced challenges during the initial launch of its app in 2017, with system failures and defects leading to a lukewarm response from the public. However, the company persevered and embarked on a journey to rebuild the app and its platform. Within five months, they relaunched a fully functional and refreshed product, which gained traction and positive reception.

Bram highlighted the importance of resilient leadership, a focused management team, and a dedicated workforce in driving Hubtel’s growth. The company now processes nearly 8.3% of all successful mobile money payments in Ghana, demonstrating its significant market presence. With over 500,000 app downloads on the Google Play Store alone and a transformation from an SMS messaging business to a licensed payment and digital transformation services provider, Hubtel has achieved remarkable milestones since its inception in 2005.

In a nutshell, Hubtel’s commitment to innovation, overcoming challenges, and providing valuable services has positioned it as a key player in Ghana’s fintech industry. Through its continued growth and expansion, the company aims to contribute to the reduction of unemployment and the overall development of the country’s digital economy.
