According to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, I never supported Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign for president
Kennedy Agyapong, a member of parliament for Assin Central, has stated that the parliament’s majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has not endorsed his bid for the presidency.
The Leader, who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, was responding to news reports claiming that he had supported the MP’s campaign.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu claimed in an exclusive interview that his actions were just intended to applaud the Assin Central MP for being a maverick.
Kennedy Agyapong is one of the Parliament’s longest-serving members, and for that, he said, he deserves praise.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is someone I’ve commended but I’ve never backed. when Ken visited my district… He has been a member of Parliament for a very long time, I was saying. I am the longest-serving member of my side, the NPP side, and the only members of the next succeeding generation that arrived in 2001 were Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and K.T. Hammond. They have continually served six terms in the House of Representatives, he said.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader, went on to say that, with this background in mind, he had limited his comparison to how Donald Trump, a former US president, rose from being an unusual politician to the position of leader.
By doing so, he made it clear that when he referred to Kennedy Agyapong as the Donald Trump of Ghana, he wasn’t doing so to support him.
He continued, “So, I was relating to that and saying that since he has served in parliament for a long time and has accrued some parliamentary experience, he qualifies to run for president. And just like businessman Donald Trump got president, I replied, well, his entrepreneurship is also praised in Ghana.
