A 41-year-old trader, Jeffrey Owusu, has been remanded in police custody for allegedly defrauding a senior police officer of a Caterpillar D343 Generator Plant valued at $15,000. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretenses and has been remanded into police custody until April 26 by the Circuit Court in Accra.

According to reports, a bench warrant has also been issued for the arrest of an accomplice, Alhaji Dramani Wayo. The incident happened in July 2016 when the senior police officer was offering his generator plant for sale and was introduced to the accused, who expressed interest in having a client who was ready to buy it.

The complainant released the generator to the accused person to show to his client for inspection, but the accused failed to return the generator after the inspection and went into hiding. A case was made to the police in February 2017, and the accused admitted the offense in his cautioned statement.

He pleaded with the police to return the generator or the money to the complainant, but went into hiding again after being released on police enquiry bail. The police made several attempts to trace the accused person to his hideout, but all efforts were futile.

On March 27, 2023, a similar case was made against the accused person, and the complainant led the police to arrest him at his hideout. During interrogation, the accused stated that he sold the generator plant to Alhaji Dramani Wayo in Kumasi and led the police to him.

However, the police met the absence of Alhaji Dramani Wayo, who refused to report to the police when invited on the phone. The accused person has been remanded into police custody, and the case has been adjourned until April 26 for further hearing.
