The National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has expressed disappointment in the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, over his handling of recent events in Ghana. According to Yamin, the IGP, who started his job well, is gradually “tarnishing his image” with his questionable work.

Yamin went on to say that if the IGP does not improve his performance, he will go down in history as the “worst” IGP in Ghana. He also criticized the IGP for his inability to cause the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, Bryan Acheampong, over some comments he made on a political platform.

“He (IGP George Akuffo Dampare) doesn’t have the balls,” Yamin said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’.

Acheampong had stated that his party, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), will use any means necessary to remain in power in the 2024 general elections. He emphasized that the NPP has the men to match the opposition National Democratic Congress boot for boot during the polls.

The NDC called on the Ghana Police Service to immediately arrest and bring to book the Minister for Food and Agriculture for comments they described as reckless and treasonable. “We urge the Ghana Police Service to act with dispatch in this matter,” a statement signed by their General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey said.

As of yet, the police have not responded to the NDC’s statement or released a statement regarding the issue.

It is not clear whether the IGP has taken note of Yamin’s criticism or if any action will be taken regarding Acheampong’s comments. The Ghanaian public will be eagerly watching the developments in the coming days.
