Kaneshie: AMA takes action against traders turning footbridge into market place
Items belonging to several vendors who converted a footbridge at the Kaneshie market into a selling area have been seized by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The AMA claims that the action was taken as a part of procedures to prevent vendors from operating on footbridges.
The footbridge has become a selling point as a result of several vendors expressing their dissatisfaction with the activity and citing that they lack a location to erect their booths to sell.
A task force agent at the Kaneshie market has been suspended by the Accra mayor for neglecting his duties.
This follows the task force agents’ inability to ensure traders do not use the shaky near-collapse footbridge as a selling point.
According to the mayor, that action is to send a message to all AMA employees not to shirk their responsibilities but instead, to be up to the task to achieve the goals and aspirations of the AMA.
