The event had participants from various countries, including Ghana. Ghana was represented by Dr. Henry K. During the election of the AfriMAB Bureau, Ghana was elected as the West African sub-Regional Coordinator. Dr. Kokofu is the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and he expressed his gratitude to H.E the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Hon Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Minister for Environment Science, Technology and Innovation for their support and commitment. As the Sub-Regional Coordinator, Ghana will also continue to promote knowledge exchanges and experience sharing on sustainable practices in the attainment of the Ecosystem Restoration agenda.

The AfriMAB is a network of MAB national committees and UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in sub-Saharan Africa, and its main goal is to enhance the implementation of the Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme in Africa. The programme focuses on the harmonious relationship between man and the environment, and it is aimed at promoting sustainable development through the wise use of natural resources.

The election of Ghana as the West African sub-Regional Coordinator is a testament to the country’s commitment to sustainable development and the restoration of ecosystems. For the most part, this will open up research opportunities to further improve restoration efforts through Biosphere Reserves, as we strive to achieve sustainable development. It is also expected to deepen collaborations and promote knowledge exchanges, which will contribute to the attainment of the Ecosystem Restoration agenda in the sub-region and beyond.
