Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, an independent candidate for president, claims that if he is elected, Ghana will process 60% of its raw resources.

According to him, one important issue contributing to Ghana’s massive foreign exchange losses is the absence of value addition to the country’s basic commodities.

He said that adding value to raw materials will not only improve employment possibilities but also help Ghana’s economy by generating more foreign cash.

In an interview with Silver TV on Monday afternoon, [October 2, 2023], Mr. Kyerematen, who served as Trade and Industry Minister from 2003 to 2007 during the previous Kufuor administration and the government of President Akufo-Addo from 2017 to January 2023, claimed this as part of his campaign.

Using the wisdom and experiences of people from many backgrounds who are not necessarily linked with a political party, he said that as an independent president, he would assure inclusive administration that would serve to further Ghana’s development.

Since he was not running for president on the platform of any political party, Mr. Kyerematen said that he provided a neutral platform for all Ghanaians—at home and abroad—to contribute to the growth of the nation.

In discussing some of his main political stances, the founder of the Movement for Change stated that his administration would maintain the stability of Ghana’s currency, arguing that without it, there would be nothing that could be done to improve the nation’s economic situation.
