Dr Kwabena Duffuor, one of the flagbearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has withdrawn the injunction application he filed against the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.

The announcement was made by his lawyers in court on May 12. Abraham Amaliba, the Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, expressed his gratitude to Dr Duffuor for his decision and thanked the party’s Council of Elders, National Chairman, and General Secretary for their efforts in resolving the issue. He added that the withdrawal of the injunction application is proof of the NDC’s unity.

Dr Duffuor had filed the injunction application at the High Court on May 9, citing concerns over the electoral album. His campaign team had also demanded a postponement of the May 13 Presidential Primaries due to what they described as a flawed register.

In a petition to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and Elections Committee of the NDC, the team stated that an extensive review of the voters’ register for 220 constituencies revealed several discrepancies that render the register incomplete or inaccurate. They argued that going into the election with such a register undermines its credibility and integrity, which could cause irreparable damage to Dr Duffuor’s campaign.

While Dr Duffuor’s injunction application has been withdrawn, the issue of the flawed register remains. The NDC must address these concerns to ensure that the primaries are transparent and credible. For the most part, the withdrawal of the injunction application is a positive development that will allow the party to move forward with the primaries. All in all, the NDC must continue to prioritize unity and fairness to ensure a successful election.
