The unfortunate incident occurred at around 8:30 am on Thursday while he was returning with two foreign nationals from a mining site.

The suspects reportedly fired gunshots at the back of the Toyota vehicle with registration number GW 4794-Y that they were riding in, resulting in the bullet hitting Emmanuel who was driving the car, leading to his death. The robbers made away with the gold bars they were transporting from the site, while the foreigners escaped unhurt.

This tragic incident is a clear reminder of the security challenges that plague mining communities in Ghana. The government and security agencies must take immediate steps to address this issue and ensure the safety and security of all citizens. It is unacceptable for criminals to operate with impunity and take the lives of innocent people. We call on the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice and ensure that the families of the deceased receive the necessary support.

In a related development, three suspects have been remanded in police custody following a robbery attack on a gold-buying shop in Akoon-Tarkwa, in the Western Region. The suspects, Ezekiel Stephen Oghenekaro, Samuel Amoashie, and Fatawu Awudu, were apprehended by the police in the bush around Benso and Esuosu townships after the robbery on April 18, 2023.

The suspects, along with three other armed individuals, attacked the gold shop and made away with an unspecified amount of money. However, the police launched an operation on the gang on the same day of the attack and managed to arrest the three suspects in the bush.

The arrest of the suspects is a welcome development and sends a strong message to other criminals that their actions will not be tolerated. The police and other security agencies must continue to work tirelessly to apprehend all those involved in criminal activities and bring them to justice. For the most part, the safety and security of all Ghanaians must be guaranteed, and we must all work together to ensure that Ghana remains a peaceful and stable country.
