Ameenu Shardow, the Black Stars team manager, has disclosed that he initially opposed Kurt Okraku’s candidacy for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in 2019. Speaking on Untoldstories TV GH, Shardow stated that he was concerned about Okraku leaving his position as CEO of Dreams FC, fearing that the club would suffer without his direct involvement.

Shardow also cited the negative backlash that often accompanies holding a high office such as the FA presidency as another reason for his opposition. Despite his initial reservations, Okraku went on to win the election by defeating Gerige Afriyie, Fred Pappoe and Nana Yaw Amponsah in October 2019, succeeding Kwesi Nyantakyi as the FA president.

Shardow recounted his conversation with Okraku, stating that he expressed his reservations about the negativity that often comes with holding such a high office. He also said that he didn’t want to put himself in a position where he would see a loved person being criticised and insulted.

However, Okraku convinced Shardow that his decision to pursue the FA presidency was necessary for growth, and he needed to move on to effect change. In Shardow’s own words: “But he told me you know, man needs to grow and in that journey, they will face some of these obstacles but you need to move on to effect change.”

All in all, Shardow’s revelation sheds light on the challenges that come with holding high office and the importance of perseverance and growth in achieving one’s goals. Okraku’s victory in the GFA presidential election shows that with determination and a clear vision, it is possible to overcome opposition and effect change.
