The Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ato Afful, has called on Ghanaian youth to explore opportunities in agriculture, stating that it is a lucrative sector with significant employment potential. Afful argued that agriculture provides far more than just labor and pain and has promising avenues for financial development and self-actualization. He noted that negative perceptions about the sector have hindered its growth and urged the youth to change their mindset towards farming.

According to Afful, agriculture offers an opportunity for self-sufficiency, independence, and financial freedom. He lamented the country’s current status as net importers of agricultural products, stressing the need to increase local production. He commended the organizers of the Miss Agriculture Ghana pageant, CHAWA, for their initiative and urged them to continue pushing for a change in the narrative surrounding agriculture.

She promised that CHAWA would work to change the narrative surrounding agriculture, making it more attractive and “sexy” to young people and women.

The Director of Marketing at GCGL, Franklin Sowa, stressed the importance of capacity building in the agricultural sector and advocated for a change in perception, viewing agriculture as both a lifestyle and an arm of tourism. He noted that concerted efforts are needed to make agriculture more attractive to the youth, and he promised to work tirelessly on initiatives that would achieve this goal.

All in all, the Managing Director of GCGL and the representatives of CHAWA agreed that there is a need to increase local production of agricultural products and change negative perceptions about the sector. They agreed to work together to achieve these goals, and both sides expressed their commitment to making agriculture a more attractive and profitable sector for the Ghanaian youth.
