Following council approval for the 2022–2023 academic year, a portion of University of Ghana students will be granted a one-time 2% discount on the 15% price increase.

This has occurred as a result of the academic year being approved by Parliament.

The discounts apply to all studies, including distance learning programmes and programmes at the Accra City Campus that require full payment.

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the UG Management, and student leaders were at odds over the 15% increase in fees.

GTEC mandated that starting with the following academic year, fee increases at all public tertiary institutions be limited to 15%.

The GTEC’s action came as a result of several complaints that some colleges were charging higher fees than the 15% Rate Approved by Parliament.

The University of Ghana was urged by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to think about reducing tuition for the current academic year in order to ease the load on students.

The University Council has approved a one-time 2% discount on the 15% tuition increase that Parliament has approved for the 2022–2023 academic year for the following programmes: full fee-paying programmes, programmes at the Accra City Campus, and distance education programmes, according to a statement from Dr. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyak, Director of Public Affairs at the University of Ghana. The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education made this request, and the decision was taken in response. The impacted students’ accounts have had this discount applied. The Student Accounts Office welcomes any questions from students who are affected by this policy.
