Hollywood icon Robert De Niro became visibly emotional in an interview when discussing his baby daughter Gia. At the age of 79, the actor welcomed his seventh child last year with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen, who is 45.
During the interview with AARP, the 80-year-old Oscar-winner paused, struggling to express his feelings before conveying that being a father to Gia was “wondrous.”
“She has a very sweet kind of way of looking at you and just taking you in,” he continued, adding that he was reminded of the way his daughter Helen looked when she was a baby.
“I don’t know where it’s gonna go with her later when she gets older,” he continued of Gia.
“But she’s thinking and she’s observing every single thing.
“It’s really interesting.
“I want to be around for as long as I can to enjoy it and enjoy her.”
Robert De Niro has a total of seven children with three different women. From his first marriage to Diahnne Abbott in the 1970s, he has two children, Drena (51) and Raphael (46).
With model and actress Toukie Smith, De Niro has twin sons, Julian and Aaron (27). His second marriage to Grace Hightower resulted in two more children, Elliot (24) and Helen (11). The couple split in 2018.
De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen welcomed their daughter Gia in April 2023. He disclosed this news during an interview with ET Canada when asked about the well-being of his six children from previous relationships.
“Seven, actually,” he responded.
“I just had a baby.”
Later, asked about becoming a dad again later in life, he said: “I’m OK with it. I’m good with it.”
“It never gets easier,” he added.
In an October interview with The Guardian, he revealed that Chen was responsible for the most of the “heavy lifting” in raising Gia.
“I’m there, I support my girlfriend,” he said.
“But she does the work.
“And we have help, which is so important.”
Robert De Niro and Tiffany Chen were first romantically linked in August 2021, according to People, although they had met earlier in 2015. Chen, a martial arts instructor, appeared in the film “The Intern,” where she played a Tai Chi instructor helping De Niro’s character.
Their romantic relationship developed later, despite De Niro being married to Grace Hightower at the time. Since 2021, they have been seen together at various events and on dates, and they currently live together in Los Angeles.
