The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly has taken a significant step towards job creation and economic growth in the Municipality by taking delivery of equipment for the installation of a Plantain Processing Factory. The factory, which will be installed at Kojina/Subiri Nkwanta, is expected to process raw plantain into finished products such as flour and chips, providing direct and indirect employment opportunities for 50 and 100 people, respectively.

The newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Mr. Paul Andoh, and the Municipal Works Engineer were on hand to receive the equipment. In his remarks, the MCE expressed gratitude to the government for the initiative and promised to supervise the project to ensure its successful completion.

The One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative is one of the flagship programmes of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The programme aims to create employment opportunities for the youth and change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on the import and export of raw materials to one which is focused on the manufacturing, value addition, and export of processed goods.

The 1D1F policy has facilitated the establishment and expansion of about 297 factories operating in various Districts across the country, creating over 289,000 jobs since its inception in 2017. This policy has made it possible for people living in rural areas to participate in the economic growth of the country, providing them with job opportunities closer to their homes.

For the most part, the 1D1F policy is driving Ghana towards industrialization, with a focus on value addition and export of processed goods. The Plantain Processing Factory in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality is a testament to the success of this policy. It provides an opportunity for the Municipality to tap into the vast potential of the agricultural sector, which has been largely underutilized, to create sustainable jobs and boost economic growth.

The success of the Plantain Processing Factory in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality is expected to spur the establishment of more factories in other districts across the country. The One District One Factory policy is a sustainable way of creating jobs, reducing poverty, and boosting the country’s economy. It is an initiative that should be supported by all Ghanaians, as it has the potential to bring about significant socio-economic transformation.
