There are reports suggesting that Joana Cudjoe, the wife of Keche Andrew, a popular Ghanaian musician, may be cleared to contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Amenfi Central constituency. It is said that some officials at the NDC national headquarters are working to approve her candidature.

Ms. Cudjoe is one of five other contenders who are seeking to challenge the incumbent MP, Peter Kwakye-Ackah, in the Amenfi Central primaries. She was initially disqualified by the Regional Vetting Committee over allegations of forgery. This was after the Committee found out that her name was not in the 2008, 2012, 2016 or 2020 voters register of the Electoral Commission in Bantama constituency, despite testifying before the vetting Committee that she started voting there in 2008.

The Committee also discovered that Ms. Cudjoe only registered in 2020 in Amenfi Central, which is far below the four-year mandatory period for aspirants wishing to contest as MP. However, a report by the vetting committee chaired by NDC Director of Communications, Kakra Essuman, indicates that the matter has been referred to Accra for further deliberation and advice.

Despite the allegations against her, there are indications that Ms. Cudjoe will be cleared to contest in the primaries. It remains to be seen how the situation will play out, as the NDC is yet to officially announce its final decision.
