Frances Essiam, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) publicity team, has stated that she does not support Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

This was revealed on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem by the immediate former Managing Director of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited.

“I am not a fan of IGP Dampare because I was arrested for a minor traffic offence at the East Legon underbridge tunnel while rushing for a meeting with some foreigners. I was taken to the station and delayed till 10:am and all attempts to get the issue resolved proved futile because the commander said if he does, he will be reported to the IGP if he takes any action,” she narrated.

Regardless, Madam Essiam stated that the Police Service is an institution she holds in high regard and finds it concerning when individuals seek to undermine it.

She recounted her story in response to charges made by COP Alex Mensah, who is being questioned by a legislative Ad-hoc committee over his suspected involvement in a scheme to depose Dr. Dampare.

COP Mensah, who has maintained that there is no ill will between him and the IGP, claims that the latter is mismanaging the service.

According to the Director of Operations, serving officers are dissatisfied with the IGP, and any impartial inquiry can back this up.

“Ghana Police is one of the professional institutions. Of course, there will definitely be bad ones, but we need to appreciate them because it seems there is some discipline the IGP is bringing into the service, and some people may not like it,” she stated.
