Superintendent George Asare, the third police officer, testified before the Parliamentary Committee on a leaked audio tape on the purported scheme to oust Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Supt. Asare, who made his appearance on September 4, 2023, disclosed that he had put out the troubled Director of Operations, COP Alex Mensah, as a prospective IGP candidate.
According to him, Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former chairman of the Northern Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP), received the idea.
He said that this came about after the latter told him that President Nana Akufo-Addo intended to hunt for a new IGP.
Three Commissioners of Police (COPs), including Mr. Alex Mesnah, were suggested by Supt. Asare.
“I made three recommendations, including COP Alex Mensah, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, and Christian Tetteh Yuhuno,” he said.
The policeman insisted that his advice was based only on what was requested of him and wasn’t intended to further anyone’s cause or sway the appointment authority.
