I have no regrets – Carlos Ahenkorah on snatching ballot papers in parliament

Carlos Ahenkorah, a member of parliament (MP) representing Tema West, has reaffirmed his commitment to stealing ballots from voters on January 7, 2021, as part of his efforts in snatching the ballots.

As part of attempts to stop Alban Bagbin of the NDC from becoming Speaker that day, the legislator fled with a batch of ballot papers during a particularly chaotic Speaker election session.

However, his intentions fell through when he was pursued by opponents on the other side. His acts were widely denounced as aggressive, immature, and undemocratic by the general public and civic society.

He recalled his prediction that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have significant hurdles in terms of policy development if Mr. Bagbin won the elections.

Mr. Ahenkorah claimed that his prophecies had come true since the NPP was now facing fierce opposition in the legislature.

He disclosed that several of his party colleagues who had at first criticized his activities had changed their minds.

“A lot of my colleagues did not understand why I snatched the ballots but today they turn to hail me. A lot of them say if they knew that things were going to be so tough in parliament as we experience today, what happened to you would have happened to you. A whole party, NDC parliamentarians mostly oppose our policies in parliament with the support of the Speaker of Parliament. How is that possible?” he said on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

The MP revealed that his undying passion, dedication, and allegiance to the NPP were what led him to decide to steal the ballots.

“So what happened there was my dedication and commitment to NPP and my loyalty. Even though I don’t think I’m going to do it again, I don’t regret doing it,” the legislator added.
