Dr. Ishmael Norman, president and chief executive officer of the Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, has requested that COP George Alex Mensah, director of operations for the Ghana Police Service, follow the proper channels for raising his concerns.

Dr. Norman claims that while he respects COP Alex Mensah’s abilities, he must adhere to the organizational framework of the police in order to resolve issues.

His remarks follow COP Alex Mensah’s admission that although there is no animosity between them, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and they occasionally have professional disputes at the highest level.

COP Because “I speak my mind,” Alex Mensah characterized himself as someone who is honest and forthright.

He revealed this on Thursday, August 31, when he testified before the special committee of seven people appointed by Speaker of the House of Representatives Alban Bagbin to look into the veracity of a video that had been released about the IGP.

He was overheard in a discussion purportedly discussing a scheme to remove the IGP prior to the 2024 elections with a number of top police officials and Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

According to the video, the IGP was obedient to former President John Dramani Mahama, who had pledged to maintain him in his position.

Despite Chief Bugri Naabu’s confirmation of the tape’s content, COP Alex Mensah disputed it, claiming that some of it had been “edited.” Despite this, he claimed he had absolutely no complaints about the present IGP.

Dr. Ishamel Norma remarked, “The two of them don’t see eye to eye. He is a lawyer who believes that he has the right to speak the truth to power, but the way he is going about it is not the proper way,” when discussing this issue on Ghana Tonight on TV3 on Thursday, August 31.

“When you are in an organization like the police you have to follow the chain of command and you have to do things properly, going outside the chain of command and working to get things done is not the right way.

“I admire him for his skills, he is very adept in responding to questions but I think the whole approach is wrong.”
