Ghana Swimming Association Hosts President’s Cup Swimming Championship to Unearth Talent Ahead of African Games

The Ghana Swimming Association recently organized the President’s cup Swimming Championships at the University of Ghana swimming pool on April 29, 2023. The event aimed to uncover new swimming talents and raise awareness about the discipline ahead of the upcoming African Games, which Ghana will host in 2024.

The championship saw the participation of young and upcoming swimmers from different parts of the country. Notable personalities, including the President of the Ghana Swimming Association, Mrs. Delphina Quaye, Ralph Quaye, and Mr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Executive Member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the African Games, graced the occasion.

In her remarks, Mrs. Delphina Quaye expressed her delight at the level of enthusiasm displayed by the young swimmers during the championship. She outlined the Ghana Swimming Association’s plans to select talented swimmers and provide them with the necessary training to take their skills to the next level.

Mr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, who was also in attendance, spoke about the LOC’s interest in competitions of this nature, particularly as swimming is one of the sport codes for the African Games. He expressed his appreciation for the event’s role in unearthing new talent and helping to build a strong team Ghana to represent the country in the upcoming games.

For the most part, the Ghana Swimming Association organizes a monthly swimming league and a speed test every other month at the University of Ghana swimming pool, providing young and upcoming swimmers with regular opportunities to showcase their talent and develop their skills.

The President’s Cup Swimming Championships served as a fantastic platform for swimmers to showcase their talent, build their confidence, and prepare for the upcoming African Games. The Ghana Swimming Association’s commitment to nurturing young swimmers and supporting them in their pursuit of excellence is a crucial step towards building a stronger and more competitive national team.
