The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is urging all its customers who owe the company to settle their debts to avoid disconnection. The ECG Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, made this known on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program on Monday. He said the company is in the final week of collecting debts and will not be lenient with debtors who fail to pay.

Mahama emphasised that the company has been carrying out a debt recovery exercise since March 20, aimed at retrieving debts owed to the company and checking for illegal connections. So far, they have retrieved 2.5 billion cedis out of the 5.7 billion cedis debt owed by customers. The exercise has increased the company’s revenue, enabling them to pay their workers.

He urged those engaged in illegal connections to do the right thing before they are caught, as the next phase of the exercise will focus solely on illegal connections.

Mahama further stated that customers should continue to pay their bills, even if they don’t receive monthly bills. Failure to pay will result in disconnection of electricity supply.

The ECG’s debt recovery exercise is critical, as it will help the company reduce its financial burden and operate effectively. It is the responsibility of all customers to pay their bills promptly, as it ensures that the ECG can continue to provide uninterrupted electricity supply.

Therefore, customers are urged to take advantage of the final week of debt collection to settle their debts and avoid disconnection. The ECG has made it clear that they will not tolerate debtors who fail to pay.
