Autopsy results show deceased in Garu assault experienced broken skull, ribs – MP
A skull fracture and fractured ribs were found in the autopsy report of a person who died as a result of military brutality, according to Albert Alalzuuga, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Garu.
This information comes after a military onslaught on Tempane and Garu people in the Upper East Region, which left one person dead and over fifty hospitalized.
According to reports, the military intervention was a reaction to claimed attacks against National Security Operatives.
MP Albert Alalzuuga cited several injuries, including broken arms and legs, in his statement expressing his displeasure and annoyance with the military’s actions in Garu.
“We are very unhappy and very frustrated with the way they behaved in Garu. Several people have broken arms and broken legs. The one who died according to the autopsy report had a broken skull and two broken ribs. Honorable Minister, if this is how the military retrieves arms, we would want to know how many arms were retrieved from Garu.”
“…To say this is the military’s style of retrieving arms which we witnessed in Garu is most unfortunate. That, in retrieving arms, you beat and kill, maim people… If you are retrieving arms, you need information,” Mr. Alalzuuga stated.
He highlighted the autopsy report’s description of the deceased person’s severe injuries and questioned the military’s strategy for reclaiming weapons.
Addressing the National Security Minister’s briefing in Accra on Monday, Alalzuuga criticized the military’s method, stating, “To say this is the military’s style of retrieving arms which we witnessed in Garu is most unfortunate. That, in retrieving arms, you beat and kill, maim people… If you are retrieving arms, you need information.”
Tempane MP Lydia Akanvariba also chimed in, saying the government need to think about paying for the hospital bills of the incident’s victims who were admitted.
