The Agenda 111 initiative, aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the country, is making significant progress in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region. The hospital project in the district, which is one of the hospitals being constructed under the initiative, is almost complete and is expected to be handed over for use before the end of the year.

The Akatsi North District Hospital is expected to serve a population of about 32,000 people in the district and surrounding areas. The hospital construction started in January 2022, and it is expected to be completed by December 2023. Construction works on the first phase of the hospital, including the superstructure, substructure, and external works, have reached advanced stages. Global Management Constructions, the contractors working on the project, have revealed that 90 percent of the hospital’s superstructure and 100 percent of the substructure have been completed, with 40 percent of the external works nearing completion.

GBCNEWS visited the project site and discovered that roofing, plastering, and plumbing work have been completed, with construction work still ongoing. The constructors stated that they are ahead of schedule on the first phase of the hospital project, and construction work on the second phase, which consists mainly of installations and improvements to the road networks leading to the hospital, is set to commence in June.

Despite encountering challenges such as accommodation for workers and power supply, the Project Manager of Global Management Constructions, Mr. Fadi Ayoub, assured that the hospital would be handed over for use on December 15, 2023.

The Akatsi North District Chief Executive, Mr. Simon Peter Kofi Ofosu, described the hospital project as part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and access to quality healthcare in the district. He noted that the project would create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the overall well-being of people in the district.

All in all, the completion of the various Agenda 111 projects, including the Akatsi North District Hospital, has raised hopes of better healthcare delivery in the country. The hospital will provide essential medical services, including maternal and child health, emergency care, surgery, and laboratory services, among others.
