VRA Targets Leadership in West Africa’s Electricity Generation Market through Innovation

The Volta River Authority (VRA) is making significant strides to become the leading power generation company in West Africa, leveraging innovation and creativity to generate more electricity to meet the increasing national demand as well as for export.

The Board Chairman of the VRA, Mr. Kofi Tutu Agyare, speaking at the 62nd anniversary celebration of the VRA in Accra, reiterated that the VRA has a great opportunity to tap into the West African electricity market and become the leader in that space. He stressed that if the authority fails to make inroads in the West African market within the next five years, it would be a significant missed opportunity.

Mr. Tutu Agyare also urged workers to develop their skills, position themselves and do more for the authority to achieve its goals. He said, “Innovation and creativity are essential to achieving our objectives,” and urged staff members to come up with unique and fresh ideas that provide novel approaches and solutions to the way they carry out their business.

The CEO of VRA, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, disclosed that the company had survived numerous challenges and that it’s time to adjust its operations to stay in business. He stated that “We have had to focus on agility, digitization and multi-stakeholder collaboration,” and called for unique and fresh ideas to improve their operations.
