Farouk Aliu Mahama, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi, has awarded Ghs210,000 in scholarships to 123 Yendi students pursuing pre-higher and tertiary education.
Through the Farouk Aliu Mahama Educational Care Fund (FUMEC-FUND), talented but needy students pursuing various courses in the universities and other tertiary institutions yesterday got the award.
The recipients were picked from the Yendi constituency and its neighboring areas in the Upper East Region, with many receiving GH¢10,000 and others receiving GH¢5,000 to pay academic expenses.
Since its inception in 2021, the Scholarship has benefited over 5,000 students from tertiary and pre-tertiary institutions.
Speaking during a short ceremony to disperse the grant yesterday, the MP stated that he was honoring a vow he made to the people of Yendi during the 2020 general elections.
“It has always been my vision to empower the youth of the constituency through education and this scholarship scheme is a tangible manifestation of the vision.”
“As an elected representative of the people, it is my duty to bridge this gap and provide opportunities for growth and development,” he stated.
