The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will introduce its new program, the “Youth in Garment and Textiles Module,” in the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Monday, August 14, 2023.
The Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Madam Frema Osei Opare, will be the honorable guest speaker at the occasion.
This strategic initiative is the result of careful consideration and facility evaluations within the clothing and apparel sector. The YEA has worked with major industry players to provide young people who are jobless with the training they need to become skilled dressmakers and tailors.
The Youth Employment Agency sees the Youth in Garment and Textile Training and Employment Module as a viable solution for youth job creation given the importance of the industry to Ghana’s economy and its role in exports, employment, and cultural preservation.
The module’s main goal is to bridge skill shortages and provide long-term job possibilities for aspiring dressmakers and tailors. This project has the potential to encourage industrial expansion and, as a result, support Ghana’s economic growth.
To be more precise, the module has been painstakingly created to give recipients in-depth information and practical instruction in a variety of tailoring and dressmaking-related areas. This includes picking out fabrics, using cutting techniques, stitching, producing clothes from scratch, creating patterns, and making changes.
To guarantee successful implementation, the initiative also seeks to cooperate with currently operating clothing start-ups. This group effort consists of:
On-the-Job Training: Selected partner organizations in the apparel and textile industries will offer hands-on instruction in a range of technical fields.
Micro and Small-Scale Apprenticeships: Skilled seamstresses and tailors in the neighborhood will provide the young people with apprenticeship opportunities.
Stakeholders have responded enthusiastically to the anticipation around the introduction of the Garment & Textile module. 2,000 people have enrolled for the project and been shortlisted for training.
Also chosen to mentor and train these recipients are 500 Master Craftsmen from the Micro and Small-scale Dressmaking and Tailoring Sector. A significant amount of training in large-scale garment manufacture has also been provided by more than 20 Industrial Garment firms.
The launch will be accompanied by an exciting One-Day Exhibition Session where the nominated service providers may display their works.
