An ardent supporter and campaign manager for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate Alan Kyerematen has warned the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, that he will have to beg for inclusion in Alan’s campaign team after the presidential primary.
If Mr. Kyerematen wins the party’s presidential primary, the Suame Constituency Youth Coordinator for Alan said that Wontumi will be forced to publicly plead before he is permitted to join.
Campaigning for Kyeremanten will be challenging, according to Aaron Korankye Prosper, because Wontumi decided to express his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and to invite several constituency chairs.
“Can Chairman Wontumi join Alan Kyerematen? No, because he has shown where he belongs. You can’t do that, because you are guilty of your own conscience,” he observed, adding that the party leadership that took the decision to throw support for one candidate has worsened the case.
“My prayer is after Alan has won, they will gather the courage to come and beg for forgiveness so that all of us will come together with love and work again,” Mr Korankye told Nana Ama Anor on Angel FM in an interview on the show ‘Wo Mpotem.’
He also chastised party officials and delegates who, last year, had the chance to remove the Chairman but were unable to do so.
According to him, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako is the party’s present issue.
“We had the opportunity to vote against Chairman Wontumi but we still voted for him and that is our problem of the party today in the Ashanti Region. What is happening here in the region is not what is happening in other regions”, he said.
In addition, he charged that the party’s regional chairman ignored the party’s base by keeping everything to himself.
In addition, he warned party members not to be persuaded by money offered to them by some presidential candidates to alter their future by supporting them even if they knew they were unqualified for the job.
“This is some of the reasons why the leadership of the party are not able to control the affairs at their various constituencies,” he stressed.
