Kwesi Pratt Jnr, an ace journalist, has voiced alarm over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s lack of authority in picking his running mate.
More than ten important New Patriotic Party (NPP) personalities are said to be competing for the role, with comparable lobbying efforts underway within regional groupings such as NPP opinion leaders in Greater Accra.
Greater Accra supporters have expressly pushed the presidential contender to select a Ga as his running mate.
Kwesi Pratt, on the other hand, has sharply criticized the focus on tribal concerns, arguing that competency should be the key criterion.
He called such lobbying efforts “foolishness” and questioned the value of one’s tribal heritage, highlighting the necessity of intellectual aptitude.
“Why are we indulging in tribalism? Whether the person is Ga or Frafra, what difference does it make? Let’s be serious!!! The main criteria should not be where the person is coming from but their capacity to think,” he exclaimed.
According to Kwesi Pratt, the unwarranted pressure on the Vice President is harming his campaign ahead of the 2024 general election.
“This will not help Bawumia…why are you doing this to this man; no presidential candidate since 1992 has been treated this way. It’s as if Bawumia can’t make decisions of his own. Now we’ve got to the level of dictation; stop that” he fumed.
A similar situation appears to be forming within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to the seasoned journalist.
He demanded an end to what he called “foolishness” in all political parties.
These statements were made by Kwesi Pratt during a panel debate on Peace FM’s morning broadcast ‘Kokrokoo.’
