According to economist Dr. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, when Ghana receives the financial assistance requested from the International Monetary Fund, there will be a change in mentality as a result of the current crisis the country is experiencing.

She believes that Ghana has taken something positive away from the current economic turmoil.

She continued by saying that in order to reduce the debt levels, the government must exercise sound financial management and aggressively mobilise its tax base.

“An unexpected term has passed for us. For instance, as a result of the present difficulties, shocks from the outside, as well as how we have handled internal issues. In order to improve domestic revenue generation, I think it is crucial that we as a nation focus on our revenue mobilisation effort, she said, according to myjoyonline.com.

Dr. Twumasi continued by expressing her optimism that Ghana’s cautious approach will be aided by the IMF agreement.

“While everyone is waiting impatiently for the IMF programme, maybe we will act morally once we reach this agreement. No time in the future should we be forced to deal with a similar perilous scenario, she continued.
