One of the kids who survived the canoe tragedy in Weija that took eight lives, Enoyanam Ekpe, has attributed it to overloading.

She stated that there were 12 people on the boat while speaking to Adom News.

Three of them, including herself, made it out alive. Eight of them passed away and their remains were found. Victoria, a small child, is still missing.

She claims that when they arrived at the river’s edge, she requested that the boat driver break them into two groups, but he refused and stated he would take everyone.

The canoe capsized, sadly, since the weight let the paddle slip from his fingers in the midst of the river.

The terrible situation happened on Wednesday at around 5:00 pm while the kids were coming home from school.

Fortune Amenume, a mother who lost both of her children, is still in disbelief.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization have not yet visited the region, according to assemblyman Dan Bright Abayateye, who represents the Bortiano Electoral region.
